Aneurysm Outreach Inc. (AOI) is dedicated to mobilizing people and resources to eradicate aneurysms. It is a result of Sheila Arrington?s personal experiences/family history with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). AOI is a unique, first-of-its-kind charity in the U.S. aortic aneurysm arena. AAA is primarily a silent, asymptomatic killer that affects an aging (especially male) population. . Risk factors are considered to be family history, hypertension, high blood cholesterol, smoking, age over 60 and being of male gender. Although ultrasound is a simple, non-invasive and accurate method for AAA discovery, because of insurance constraints it is not typically performed unless symptoms are present. AOI currently creates partnerships to offer free AAA screening programs to at risk seniors in Louisiana?s major cities. Offering this potentially life-saving opportunity throughout the U.S. is a long-term goal.
